2000 Rupee Note: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given an important update regarding the Rs 2000 notes that have been removed from circulation. RBI said on Monday that 98.15 percent of the Rs 2000 notes that have been removed from circulation have returned to the banking system. But people still have notes worth Rs 6,577 crore. Let us tell you that on May 19, 2023, RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation.
In a statement issued by the RBI, it is said that on the day of announcement of withdrawal of notes, at the time of closing of business, a total of Rs 3.56 lakh crore worth of Rs 2000 notes were present. On 31 January 2025, this has come down to Rs 6,577 crore. In this way, a total of 98.15 percent has been returned so far.

The Reserve Bank had made the facility of depositing or exchanging Rs 2000 notes available in all bank branches till October 7, 2023. This facility is still available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. RBI’s issue offices are accepting Rs 2000 notes. Apart from this, people can send Rs 2000 notes through any post office in the country to any issuing office of RBI to deposit them in their bank accounts.
Let us tell you that despite being withdrawn from circulation, Rs 2000 notes remain legal tender. Rs 2000 notes were introduced in November 2016 after the then prevalent Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes were removed from circulation.
