₹2000 Notes Still in 2000 People
At the time the RBI discontinued the circulation of ₹2000 notes, ₹3.56 lakh crore worth of ₹2000 notes were in circulation across the country. As of December 31, 2025, 98.41 percent of this value has been withdrawn. Meanwhile, ₹5669 crore worth of ₹2000 notes remain in the possession of the public.
In the past two months, the RBI has also received a small amount of 2000 rupee notes returned. As of October 31, 2025, the circulation of 2000 rupee notes was ₹5,817 crore, which has now risen to ₹5,669 crore. Consequently, in the past two months, the RBI has received a total of ₹148 crore worth of 2000 rupee notes returned to it.
How to exchange 2000 rupee notes?

The RBI has 19 offices across India, including in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.
