2000 Rupees Note: Today is the last day to exchange 2000 rupee notes in banks.

Today is the last chance to exchange or deposit Rs 2000 pink note in the bank. If you miss the opportunity even today, you will not be able to exchange notes in banks. However, you will have another option to exchange the notes.

If you still have pink notes of Rs 2000, then go to the bank today and deposit them or exchange them. Today is its last chance. Earlier the deadline for exchanging Rs 2000 notes was 30 September, but the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had extended this date to 7 October 2023. In such a situation, today is the last chance to exchange or deposit the notes.

What are the options if I miss today?

However, if even today for some reason you are not able to deposit the note in the bank or get it exchanged, then there is no need to worry. You will have this opportunity in future also. But then you will not be able to exchange notes in any bank branch. Reserve Bank of India has said that from October 8, 2023 onwards, you can deposit/exchange your Rs 2000 notes by visiting 19 regional offices of RBI. Only Rs 20,000 notes can be exchanged at a time. Individuals/entities present in India can also send Rs 2000 notes to 19 regional offices of RBI through India Post. This amount will be deposited in their bank accounts in India.

Rs 2000 note came into circulation during demonetisation

Let us tell you that on May 19, the Reserve Bank of India had announced to remove these pink notes from circulation and had given the facility for their return till September 30, 2023. However, at the last moment this deadline was extended to October 7. The Rs 2,000 note came into the market in the year 2016, when the government had announced to remove the largest currency notes in circulation i.e. Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from circulation. During demonetization, a new note of Rs 500 and a pink note of Rs 2000 were issued in place of Rs 1000. But when notes of other denominations came in sufficient quantity in circulation, then RBI stopped printing of Rs 2000 notes from the year 2018-19.
