Jairam Thakur has been named the next Himachal Pradesh chief minister.
The suspense over who will be Himachal Pradesh’s next CM is over. The BJP has declared Jairam Thakur as the new Himachal Pradesh chief minister .
A strong leader from the Mandi belt, Jairam Thakur has won his fifth straight assembly poll from Seraj seat. Thakur will take oath as the chief minister on December 27.
Addressing the media shortly after his appointment as the CM-elect, Jairam Thakur first thanked all BJP leaders, “I thank all legislators for supporting my candidature.” He further added, “We waited for Congress Mukt Himachal, now our dreams have come true.”
He lauded PK Dhumal’s efforts and said, “I want to thank Prem Kumar Dhumal ji who proposed my name supported by JP Nadda, and Shanta Kumar ji.”
With experience in both administration as well as in organisation, Thakur has been a minister in the previous BJP government. He was also the state unit president between 2006-2009.
Thakur was first elected to Himachal Pradesh Assembly from Mandi and had won his first election in the year 1998.
Jairam Thakur is considered close to JP Nadda and hence enjoys support of top BJP leadership. Party has performed strongly in the Mandi belt by winning 9 out of 10 seats in the region.
The party had sent Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Narendra Singh Tomar along with state BJP in-charge Mangal Pandey as observers to help the Assembly decide the new chief minister.
