Allahabad:  Taking serious note of rampant corruption in development authorities of Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today said that honesty has virtually become an endangered species and there is a need to “protect” honest and impartial men of integrity.

A bench of justices Sudhir Agarwal and Ajit Kumar made this observation while allowing a petition filed by Narendra Kumar Tyagi of Meerut challenging allotment of a 200 square metre plot at Defence Enclave Yojna in Kankadkheda there.

“Honesty has become a scarcity and virtually an endangered species. We need immediate steps to evolve a scheme (as is being practiced in respect of rare animals) to protect honest and impartial men of integrity,” the court said.

The advocate appearing for the petitioner argued that the whole process of auction that took place on July 23, 2014 was an “eyewash”.

To this, the bench observed, “Records related to allotment of plot makes it clear that the entire process adopted by the officer of Meerut Development Authority in the present case is nothing but a farce and full of manipulations, fraud and misrepresentation.”

Noting that corruption is prevalent in various public offices, the bench also observed, “People involved in corruption are now part of everyday life and it has engulfed society in a very big way. Today, finding an honest person is a rarity. Dishonesty and corruption are routine affair.”

  1. We are aware that the Personal Quality HONESTY has become a rare commodity. Every one including those indulging in corruption voices the slogan “CORRUPTION IS UNCONTROLABLE IN INDIA” In Government offices we still follow the colonial term ON COMPANY (OC) account. Government officials starting from the class 4 officer to Class 1 officer have their share for any paper to be approved according to the rank/grade. Private companies have created a column in their accounts book for bribing. An appointment is created as Liaison Officer for transferring the bribe tactfully. He need not be a MBA but should be a Most Versatile Person (MVP). That person not only transfers the money to the Government Officer but to his account also. Unless the Public come together and revolt understanding the present Government”s efforts to eradicate CORRUPTION we have to say GOD SAVE OUR NATION only.

  2. Every Indian will concur with the judges who made these comments. What’s surprising is they are talking as if there is no corruption in judiciary. However, as pointed out the primary motto of office bearers appears to be illicit money making
