Think Aadhaar has made your life difficult? The 12-digit biometric number comes with its own advantages. This is especially true for those who want to transfer or withdraw their Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) money.
The only thing an employee needs to ensure is that his Aadhaar number is linked to his provident fund (PF) account. Essentially, the Unique Account Number (UAN) has to be seeded with Aadhaar so as to make PF linked to it.
So, if you have a UAN, follow these steps to link your PF to your Aadhaar.
Step 1: Login to the Unified Portal of Employees’ Provident Fund (https://unifiedportal.epfindia.gov.in/ )
Step 2: Click on ‘For employees’, followed by ‘UAN Member e-Sewa’ ( as seen above)
Enter the UAN and password to log on to the portal.
Step 3: Click on ‘Manage’ at the top panel and then on ‘KYC’
Step 4: On the next page, under ‘Add KYC’, give your bank, PAN and Aadhaar details and submit.
Once submitted, you can find your details under ‘Pending KYC’.
And, once approved by the employer (which may take about 15 days), it will be shown under ‘Approved KYC’
Linking your Aadhaar to the PF account will help in faster transfer and withdrawal process. For it to happen, the present employer should have approved and verified the KYC including the employee’s Aadhaar details. Recently, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had revamped both, withdrawal and transfer, processes. Here’s a low down on both of them.
Auto transfer process
Upon joining a new organisation, the employee is supposed to fill and submit details to the new employer by furnishing details in the ‘Composite Declaration Form (F-11)’. Along with your basic details, it also asks for the previous UAN, if any, previous PF number etc.
When your present employer enters the information (as per Form 11) in the employer’s portal, and if the UAN is seeded with Aadhaar and bank details and is verified by the previous employer, it will trigger an auto-transfer process. This will will transfer the accumulations against the previous PF number to the new one. In other words, if your Aadhaar is linked to the PF, the transfer happens automatically.
Withdrawal of PF money
After leaving a job one is allowed to withdraw the entire PF balance after a cooling off period of 2 months of exit. For claims, one has to fill the ‘Composite claim form (Aadhaar)’ wherein the need for employer’s attestation has been done away with.
However, for a faster claim, one needs to meet certain conditions as set by the EPFO, including that of linking the PF to one’s Aadhaar.
Once logged on to the website (https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/) and after applying for withdrawal, to authenticate the claim process, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to the registered mobile number that is there in the Aadhaar database. Once this OTP is entered, submit the ‘Composite claim form (Aadhaar)’ and the withdrawal process is initiated.
