IIT JAM 2020 Notification Released, EWS Quota Introduced, Know Key Changes and Updates Here


JAM 2020 Exam Notification Released: IIT Kanpur has released the official exam notification for IIT JAM 2020 Exam. JAM 2020 i.e. Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is a postgraduate level entrance examination conducted to screen students for admission to M.Sc Programmes offered by various IITs. Earlier, IIT Kanpur had released the important dates for JAM 2020 Exam for the various exam events lined up for the JAM 2020 Exam. However, now with the release of official notification, the along with exam dates, the institute has also clarified other details including the number of seats on offer.

IIT JAM 2020 Exam Notification – Key Changes

The key changes announced for IIT JAM 2020 Exam in the exam notification are listed below:

EWS Quota To be Applicable for JAM 2020 Exam

In line with the government’s directive to provide reservation to Economically Weaker Sections of the society, IIT Kanpur has announced introduction of EWS Quota for JAM 2020 Exam. As per the examination notification, the institute has set aside dedicated seats that will be filled by students belonging to EWS Quota.

Increase in Total Number of Seats

Another key change that has been highlighted in the IIT JAM 2020 Notification has been increase in the total number of seats. This year, the institute has increased the total seats that are to be filled through IIT JAM 2020 Exam by 92 seats. The 92 seats increased for JAM 2020 exam are distributed across 9 IITs which admit students shortlisted through the exam.

Category-wise Seat Availability Revised

Following the revision in the total number of seats on offer, IIT Kanpur has also revised the seat matrix. The number of seats offered under various categories has also been revised following the increase in the total number of seats. For instance, IIT Indore has announced reduction in the OBC category seats on offer at the institute from 6 to 3. Similarly IIT Guwahati has also reduced the seats available to General Category students through JAM 2020 to 23 from 24 seats offered earlier. Apart from these two institutes, many other IITs have also announced changes in the seat matrix. Candidates are advised to check the complete revised seat matrix for JAM 2020 in the official notification.
