Odisha: Many injured after 7 coaches of Mumbai-Bhubaneswar train derail near Cuttack


BHUBANESWAR: Around 20 people were injured after the LTT-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Express (12879) hit a guard van of a goods train near Salagaon station in Cuttack district on Thursday.

The incident happened at around 7am between Nergundi and Salagaon stations. At least five coaches were severely affected and three others were slightly damaged in the accident, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources.

The coaches got derailed after the train hit the guard van of a goods train ECoR chief spokesperson JP Mishra said the injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital. Senior railway officials and train driver/TTE have confirmed that there are no deaths, he added.

“All coaches are being checked one by one. No further injured passenger found till now. No death case is reported so far,” read an ECoR statement.
