There’s good news for Uttar Pradesh government employees and pensioners on the occasion of Diwali. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for the state’s 2.8 million employees and pensioners.
3% DA Hike: Good news has come for the employees and pensioners of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Diwali. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the dearness allowance of 28 lakh government employees and pensioners of the state will be increased by 3 percent. This decision will come into effect from July 1, 2025 and the employees and pensioners will get it in the form of cash payment from October 2025. According to this decision of the government, dearness allowance will now increase from 55 percent to 58 percent. The Chief Minister said that the government is fully committed to the interests of the employees and pensioners and this step has been taken for their financial security and improvement of standard of living.
The additional expenditure burden associated with the dearness allowance increase is also substantial. In November 2025, employees and pensioners will receive an additional cash payment of ₹795 crore, of which ₹185 crore will be deposited in the GPF of OPS personnel. The government will bear a burden of over ₹550 crore for the arrears payment from July to September 2025. Starting in December 2025, the state government will bear an additional expenditure of approximately ₹245 crore per month.
The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure that the increased dearness allowance and dearness relief are credited to employees’ and pensioners’ accounts on time. This move will not only increase employees’ salaries but also provide relief from inflation and improve their standard of living.
How much will the salary increase?
The dearness allowance received by employees depends on their basic salary. For example, if an employee’s basic salary is ₹60,000, they previously received ₹33,000 in dearness allowance at the rate of 55% DA. Now, after the new increase, this allowance will increase to ₹34,800 at the rate of 58% DA, meaning their salary will increase by ₹1,800 per month.
| Basic Salary (Estimated) | YES 55% | DA 58% (after hike) | salary hike |
| Rs 60,000 | Rs 33,000 | Rs 34,800 | 1800 rupees |
Gift to central employees too
It should be noted that just a few days ago, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, approved a proposal to increase the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners by 3% to 58%. This increased dearness allowance will be effective from July 1. This is an important step taken by the government ahead of Diwali. It is common for the government to announce dearness allowance increases around the festival season.
