3 New Expressways: Uttar Pradesh is rapidly moving towards becoming an Expressway State. A vast grid of 22 expressways, including greenfield and link expressways, is being developed in the state. Among these, the Ganga Expressway, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, and the Ghazipur-Ballia Expressway will soon be opened to the public. Once these projects are operational, travel from Delhi to Purvanchal will become easier, faster, and more convenient.

Ganga Expressway

The Ganga Expressway, being built from Meerut to Prayagraj, is one of the state’s most ambitious projects. It will connect districts like Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. More than 96% of the main carriageway work has been completed, and the FASTag toll system has been successfully tested. It is expected to be fully operational in March. Once operational, the distance between Western Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal will be significantly reduced.

Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway

The approximately 63 km-long Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway (NE-6) is a 6-lane access-controlled road, which can be expanded to 8 lanes in the future. An 18-19 km-long elevated section has been constructed, making it the longest elevated expressway in the state. Currently, the journey from Lucknow to Kanpur takes 2.5 to 3 hours, but once operational, the distance will be covered in just 35 to 45 minutes. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹4,700 crore and is expected to be operational by the end of March or April 2026.

Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway

The proposed Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway, approximately 750 km long, will be the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh. It will pass through 22 districts and directly connect western Uttar Pradesh with Purvanchal. Its DPR has been completed, and land acquisition is progressing rapidly. Construction is expected to begin in 2026-27.

Neighboring States Will Also Benefit

These expressway projects will also benefit states like Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Industrial investment, tourism, and trade will gain new momentum. The Yogi Adityanath government has allocated ₹15,000 crore in the budget for road construction and maintenance.
