8th CPC: How will the ‘fitment factor’ that increases salary work?

The soul of any pay commission is its ‘Fitment Factor’. This is a magical number by which your current basic salary is multiplied to determine the new basic salary. We will do our entire calculation based on an estimated 1.92 times fitment factor.

8th CPC: What does the calculation mean?

1. Big jump in basic salary

The biggest change is in the basic salary, which is increasing from ₹1.51 lakh to ₹2.90 lakh directly. This is a jump of about 92%.

2. Will DA be added to the basic?

55% (currently) DA will be added to the basic, so it will appear zero in the new salary. However, this is according to the current structure. By the time the new pay commission is implemented, DA can be 61%.

3. New math of HRA

Even though the rate of HRA decreases from 30% to 24%, due to the increased basic salary, the amount of HRA will increase from ₹45,330 to ₹69,627.

4. How much salary will come in hand

After all the deductions, the net salary will increase from ₹2,10,438 to ₹2,58,666. This is a direct increase of ₹48,228 every month.

Conclusion: Basic pay will almost double

The 8th Pay Commission is not just a salary increase formula. It is like a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for thousands of senior officers who have spent the most precious time of their lives in the service of the country. The almost doubling of the basic salary and the net salary crossing the psychological figure of ₹2.5 lakh are not just some numbers. This is proof of how sweet the fruits of years of hard work and experience are. This will give such financial confidence to those officers that they will be able to live a respectable and worry-free life even after their retirement. This is not just a salary hike, but an honor for decades of dedication.
