c: Central government employees and pensioners have been waiting for the 8th Pay Commission for a long time. Now it is going to end soon. The government has said that it is actively consulting with the states regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission. An announcement is expected soon regarding the formation of this commission. According to a report by Financial Express, last month, a delegation of the National Federation of Government Employees (GENC) met Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh.
This delegation is the apex organization of industry associations associated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). In this meeting, they discussed many issues including the delay in the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Let us tell you that the 8th Pay Commission was announced in January this year and since then there has been no significant progress in it. Employees are especially eagerly waiting for the appointment of the main members of the commission and the final outline of the Terms of Reference (ToR).
These issues were discussed
In the meeting with the minister, the delegation raised many important issues. Many issues were discussed such as delay in 8th Pay Commission, abolition of National Pension System (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) and restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), release of DA arrears of 18 months frozen during Covid-19.
Central Pay Commission to be formed soon
According to the report, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh assured that the 8th Central Pay Commission will be constituted soon. The minister assured the delegation that the commission will be announced soon and immediately arranged a meeting with the Pension Secretary to restore the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Other issues such as increasing compassionate appointments, cadre review of employees, and ensuring regular JCM meetings were also raised in the meeting. Some demands were noted for consideration. The delegation also submitted a detailed memorandum covering the pending major demands of government employees.
Know why the 8th Pay Commission is important?
Actually, the income of government employees and pensioners is decided every 10 years through the new Pay Commission. Last time the 7th Pay Commission was implemented. Now the 8th Pay Commission is expected to give big benefits to the employees in basic salary, allowances and pension.
These allowances may be abolished in the 8th Pay Commission
It is being speculated that this time in the 8th Pay Commission, travel allowance, special duty allowance, small level regional allowances and some departmental allowances (such as the old typing/clerical allowance) may be abolished. However, no official statement has been issued in this regard yet. The government’s aim this time too is to make the salary structure “logical and easy”.
