8th Pay Commission BIG Update: The Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO) has placed some important demands before the government, which could bring about a major change in the salaries of employees.
8th Pay Commission BIG Update: The central government may soon implement the 8th Pay Commission. If this happens, it will benefit approximately 5 million central employees and approximately 6.9 million pensioners. Meanwhile, the Federation of National Postal Organizations (FNPO) has placed some important demands before the government, which could significantly change employees’ salaries.
The FNPO has demanded that the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission be increased from 3.0 to 3.25. Additionally, the annual increment (annual increment) be increased from 3 percent to 5 percent. If these demands are accepted, lower and middle-level employees, in particular, will benefit significantly.
For example, the current basic salary of a peon (Level 1 employee) is ₹18,000. If a fitment factor of 3.25 is applied, their basic salary could rise to approximately ₹58,500. This increase is considered significant in itself.
The FNPO has suggested different fitment factors for employees at all levels. A fitment factor of 3.00 has been set for Levels 1 to 5 (Group C and D). For Levels 6 to 12, it could be 3.05 to 3.10. For senior officers, i.e., Levels 13 to 15, a fitment factor of 3.05 to 3.15, and for Levels 16 and above, a fitment factor of 3.20 to 3.25 is proposed.
If these proposals are implemented, the basic salary of Level 1 could be ₹54,000, Level 5 ₹87,600, and Level 10 (Group A entry) could be approximately ₹1.73 lakh. Senior IAS officers will also see a significant increase in their salaries. The basic salary of a Cabinet Secretary (Level 18) could reach approximately ₹8.12 lakh.
FNPO General Secretary Shivaji Vasireddy stated that all these suggestions will be part of the draft of the 8th Pay Commission. The NC-JCM meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2026, after which the final recommendations will be submitted to Commission Chairperson Ranjana Prakash Desai.
FNPO states that the fitment factor in previous pay commissions was not uniform across all levels. Therefore, this time, a multi-level fitment factor has been demanded, based on the Ackroyd formula. This factor takes into account the needs of a family of four, including food, clothing, housing, and other essential expenses.
If the government accepts these demands, the 8th Pay Commission could prove to be a major relief package for millions of employees.
