8th Pay commission latest: Central employees are waiting for the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Earlier this year, the Central Government had approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission to review the salaries of employees. However, till now neither the committee of this pay commission has been formed nor any kind of notification has come. Now meetings of employees’ organizations and the government have started on this issue. Recently, a delegation of Government Employees National Confederation (GENC) has met Dr. Jitendra Singh. In this meeting, some important issues related to central employees were discussed. During this, the 8th Pay Commission was also mentioned. Although no official statement was issued after the meeting, it has been termed as a positive conversation.
Question was asked in the House
During the monsoon session, Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh had asked 3 questions related to the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary replied to these questions in writing – The government has decided to form the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Suggestions have been sought from major stakeholders. Its official notification will be issued in due course. Regarding the progress so far, he said that suggestions have been sought from major stakeholders including the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and Training and the states. He said that the Commission will give its recommendations within the time frame prescribed in the Terms of Reference (TOR).
Fitment factor is important for salary
Fitment factor will be the biggest factor in the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. Fitment factor is used to review the salary, pension and allowances of government employees. This is an important calculation that determines the level of salary and pension of government employees. The fitment factor is determined keeping in mind factors like inflation, needs of employees and financial capacity of the government.
Factors that were important in the Seventh Pay Commission
The salary of central employees is currently based on the fitment factor of the Seventh Pay Commission implemented in 2016. The commission used a fitment factor of 2.57 percent. However, this does not mean that the salary increased by 2.57 times, rather, by adding this factor to the basic salary, it was made at least ₹ 18,000.
Salary calculation
The salary of a government employee includes basic, dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA) and transport allowance. Basic is 51.5 percent of the total income while DA is about 30.9 percent, HRA is about 15.4 percent and transport allowance is about 2.2 percent.
