Passengers at Dubai International Airport can now complete the entire departure process in just a few seconds — without showing passports, without pulling out boarding passes and without stopping. This is possible thanks to a revolutionary new technology called the “Red Carpet Smart Corridor”.
Airport New System: The service has been developed in collaboration between Dubai Airports and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai and is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. Officials say it takes the passenger experience to new heights and reinforces Dubai’s vision to remain a global aviation leader.
Passport-free, paper-free, hassle-free
The real beauty of this “Red Carpet” corridor is its fully automated and document-free system. Passengers simply walk through the corridor and artificial intelligence, biometric cameras and flight data complete their identification, booking and exit process in a matter of seconds.
Brigadier Waleed Ahmed Saeed, Assistant Deputy Director (Airport Affairs), GDRFA Dubai, explained that the system is based on three pillars:
- Pre-verified security – Passenger details are checked beforehand.
- Biometric match – Cameras match passenger identity with their registered biometric data.
- Seamless departure – Flight details are automatically confirmed, without the need to show passport or boarding pass.
Passenger feedback
Passengers Gulf News spoke to found the experience extremely seamless and futuristic. Families called it a stress-free process, business travellers highlighted the time savings and tourists described it as a ‘magical’ experience.
Also, many passengers said they were satisfied with the fact that their security checks were already completed.
A step towards ‘zero bureaucracy’
The facility is currently available to passengers departing from Terminal 3, but will soon be extended to arrivals and other terminals as well. GDRFA Dubai Director General, Lt. General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri said the project reflects the UAE’s philosophy of Zero Bureaucracy while maintaining world-class security standards.
The technology has been developed entirely by Emirati experts, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to indigenous innovation.
How does the service work?
Passengers need to register just once — by linking passport details to a biometric photo. They can then use the smart gates and this new corridor for every future trip. The facility is available to passengers of all nationalities and all ticket classes.
A new era of air travel
With the launch of this service, Dubai has once again set global benchmarks in air travel, where speed, safety and convenience are the perfect combination.
