Navratri Bhog: Navratri is a sacred festival of 9 days in which nine different forms of Maa Durga (Navdurga) are worshipped. Every day a particular form of Maa Durga is worshipped and different offerings are made to her.
The nine forms of Maa Durga are Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri.
Offering bhog in Navratri is considered very auspicious and pious. Devotees offer bhog to attain happiness, prosperity and power by the grace of Maa Durga.
Which bhog should be offered in Navratri?
First day (Maa Shailputri) – Ghee is offered. This gives freedom from diseases and a healthy life.
Second day (Maa Brahmacharini) – Sugar is offered as prasad. It is a symbol of longevity and contented life.
Third day (Maa Chandraghanta) – Milk based dishes like kheer etc. are offered as prasad. This brings happiness and peace in life and removes sufferings.
Fourth day (Maa Kushmanda) – Malpua is offered as prasad. It increases wisdom and decision making power.
Fifth day (Maa Skandmata) – Banana is offered as prasad. It brings good health and good fortune.
Sixth day (Maa Katyayani) – Honey is offered as prasad. It symbolizes peace and harmony.
Seventh day (Maa Kalratri) – Jaggery is offered as prasad. It provides strength and protects from negative forces.
Eighth day (Maa Mahagauri) – Coconut is offered as Prasad. It is a symbol of new beginnings and auspicious results. Kanya Pujan is also performed on this day.
Ninth day (Maa Siddhidatri) – Sesame is offered as Prasad. Maa Siddhidatri fulfills all the wishes of the devotees.
