Indian Railways’ most modern semi-high-speed train, the Vande Bharat Express, is now rapidly undergoing preparations for its next generation, Vande Bharat 4.0. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced that this new train will be launched within the next 18 months. Its aim is not only to provide better service to passengers but also to make India a global leader in high-speed train manufacturing. With this announcement, it has become clear that India is no longer just a consumer but is also emerging as a producer and exporter.
The Vande Bharat Express’s Journey
The Vande Bharat Express, launched in 2019, is built entirely with indigenous technology under the Make in India initiative. Following the initial version 1.0, versions 2.0 and 3.0 have distinguished themselves with technological improvements, energy efficiency, improved passenger experience, and faster acceleration. Vande Bharat 3.0 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 52 seconds, significantly faster than many Japanese and European trains. Its smooth ride, reduced noise, and vibration make it internationally competitive.
Features of Vande Bharat 4.0
Vande Bharat 4.0 will bring significant changes in both technology and design and amenities. Toilets will be made more hygienic and suitable for the disabled. New seats will make long journeys comfortable, while coach finishes are being developed to international standards. Advanced suspension systems will further improve safety and ride smoothness. The aim of these improvements is to prepare the train as per the world standards so that it can be sold abroad also.
Who manufactures the Vande Bharat trains?
Vande Bharat trains are manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. This is a Government of India project. Companies such as Medha Servo Drives, BHEL, and Titagarh Rail Systems have provided technical support. Operation and maintenance are handled by various zones of the Indian Railways.
