Red Fort to remain closed for the next 10 days from December 5th
An order issued by the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India on Tuesday evening stated that the session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee will be hosted at the Red Fort from December 8th to 13th. With representatives from over 24 state parties and over 1,000 delegates participating, the event will focus on safeguarding measures and global cooperation to protect heritage around the world. Therefore, the Red Fort will remain closed to the public for the next 10 days from December 5th.
Meeting of the Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage
The closure is necessary for the meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, to be held at the Red Fort from December 8 to 13. Senior officials said that extensive arrangements and security protocols are underway for the high-level international event, which is why the closure dates have been adjusted. The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Delhi’s biggest tourist attractions, will reopen to tourists on December 15.
