Vehicles Speed Limit Reduce: Drivers traveling at high speeds on the Yamuna Expressway and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are in for a major change. The government has decided to reduce the speed limit on the expressway from December 15th. With the new rules in place, drivers will now have to drive within the set maximum speed limit, or face a hefty fine. According to a report in Jansatta, the government has taken this decision to prevent accidents caused by poor visibility and slippery roads during winter.

Speeds will be reduced to this many kilometers per hour

According to reports, the speed limit for light vehicles will be reduced from 100 kilometers per hour to 75 kilometers per hour. Similarly, the speed limit for heavy vehicles will be reduced to 60 kilometers per hour on the Yamuna Expressway and 50 kilometers per hour on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. This speed limit will generally apply from December 15th for the next two months. Therefore, it is advised to drive cautiously on these expressways to avoid accidents.

These instructions for commercial vehicles

The police administration has issued specific instructions to commercial vehicles, asking them to strictly adhere to the new speed limits. Otherwise, strict action may be taken. Violations of these rules will even result in vehicle seizures. Commercial vehicles have also been instructed to install reflectors.

Without reflectors, vehicles will not be allowed to enter the expressway. The administration stated that the new speed limit will be displayed on public maps and signage to ensure that drivers are aware of it in advance. The police will also take several other steps to enhance safety on the expressway.

How much penalty will have to be paid?

Stricter action is now being taken against overspeeding in Uttar Pradesh. First-time speed limit violations result in a fine of ₹1,000, while repeated violations increase the fine to ₹2,000. Traffic systems in Noida and Lucknow have been upgraded with modern technology, where motion-triggered speed trap cameras record not only the vehicle’s spot speed but also its average speed over the entire distance. These cameras are directly synced with vehicle registration data, so late payment of a fine can impact vehicle renewals and document updates.
