A significant number of Indian professionals use H-1B visas to live and work in the United States. Therefore, eliminating H-1B visas would be a major blow to Indian professionals.
A US congressman has introduced a bill to eliminate the H-1B visa program. He claims that companies have repeatedly exploited the system and imported cheap foreign labor into the US. Republican Rep. Greg Steube of Florida introduced the EXILE Act, which proposes amending the Immigration and Citizenship Act to eliminate the H-1B visa program. Steube said in a statement, “Prioritizing foreign workers over the well-being and prosperity of American citizens undermines our values and national interests.”
America Will Prioritize Americans
The US congressman said, “Our workers and youth are increasingly displaced and marginalized by H-1B visas, which benefit companies and foreign competitors at the expense of our workforce. We cannot sustain our children’s dreams while we continue to hand them over to non-citizens.” That’s why I’m introducing the ‘EXILE Act’ to put hardworking Americans first again.” It’s worth noting that a large segment of Indian professionals use H-1B visas to live and work in the United States. Therefore, eliminating H-1B visas would be a major blow to Indian professionals.
US imposes new and stringent restrictions on H-1B visas
The Trump administration has intensified its crackdown on both legal and illegal immigration and has imposed new and stringent restrictions on visas like the H-1B. Trump signed a proclamation last year, calling the misuse of the H-1B visa program a threat to national security, imposing a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas. This move caused widespread panic, confusion, and concern among Indian professionals. The statement noted that more than 80 percent of H-1B visa recipients are Indian or Chinese citizens, with priority given to young workers.
