Digital Life Certificate: The government has stepped up monitoring of the process of submission of Digital Life Certificate (DLC) to ensure that retired employees comply with this mandatory requirement. “All pension disbursing banks have been directed to keep a watch on non-submission of DLC and make necessary arrangements to ensure submission of DLC,” Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to a question.
He added that the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare also monitors banks to help pensioners complete this process. All pensioners are required to submit a life certificate to continue receiving their pension.
What is a Digital Life Certificate?
A Digital Life Certificate (DLC) confirms that the pensioner is alive, allowing pension payments to continue without interruption. Traditionally, retirees had to physically attend banks or offices.
How to submit a Life Certificate?
To address these difficulties, the government has introduced facial authentication technology, allowing pensioners to generate their DLC using just a smartphone. This reduces the reliance on biometric devices and physical attendance, making the process more accessible to senior citizens.
The services of India Post and Payments Bank, post offices, and Gramin Dak Sevaks are also being used to help senior citizens, especially those over the age of 80, submit their DLCs. Pensioners over the age of 80 can also submit their DLCs in October.
Mega camps are organised at places where a large number of pensioners live; he added that during DLC campaigns, arrangements are made to provide services to elderly, sick or infirm persons and disabled pensioners at their doorstep.
