Starting April 1, 2026, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Bandhan Bank will be making changes to their ATM rules. This includes the free transaction limit, cash withdrawal limit, and charges on additional transactions. At HDFC, cash withdrawals via UPI will now also count towards the free limit. PNB has reduced the withdrawal limit for several debit cards, while Bandhan Bank has capped the number of free transactions. Following these changes, increased ATM usage may result in a ₹23 additional tax per transaction. Therefore, customers will need to be aware of transaction planning, digital payments, and the bank’s new rules.
Effective April 1, 2026, HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Bandhan Bank will be making changes to their ATM rules. This includes the limit on free transactions, cash withdrawal limits, and additional transaction charges. With these new rules in place, customers will need to use ATMs with more planning than before, as transactions exceeding the set limit will incur additional charges.
These changes will directly impact frequent ATM users. Such customers will now need to limit their cash withdrawals and balance checks to avoid additional charges. Let’s take a look at the banks that have changed their ATM charges.
HDFC Bank ATM Charges
The biggest change at HDFC Bank will be related to cash withdrawals using UPI. UPI-based cardless cash withdrawals (ICCW) will now be counted as regular ATM transactions. Customers with savings and salary accounts will receive five free transactions per month at their HDFC Bank ATMs. At ATMs of other banks, you’ll receive three free transactions in metro cities and five in non-metro cities. After the free limit is reached, each transaction will be charged ₹23 plus taxes. Previously, UPI withdrawals were counted separately, but they are now included in the free limit.
Changes related to PNB Bank
PNB (Punjab National Bank) has reduced the daily cash withdrawal limit on several debit cards. Withdrawals on Platinum, Gold, and Business cards, which previously allowed up to ₹1 lakh, have now been reduced to ₹50,000. Select and Signature cards, which previously had a limit of ₹1.5 lakh, have now been reduced to ₹75,000. This means the limit has been halved on some cards.
Bandhan Bank ATM Rules Changes
Bandhan Bank has also changed the number of free transactions. Five free financial transactions will be available each month at its own ATMs, while non-financial transactions (such as balance checks) will remain unlimited. At other banks’ ATMs, three free transactions will be available in metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, etc.) and five in non-metro cities. After the limit is reached, charges will apply as per the bank’s rules.
These changes have been made in accordance with RBI guidelines. Banks say this will reduce unnecessary ATM usage and encourage digital transactions. Customers are advised to keep an eye on their free limits before the start of their month. Excessive ATM usage may result in a ₹23 charge plus GST.
It’s important for bank customers to transfer money using UPI, net banking, or mobile apps. Check the new limits and charges on your bank’s app or website. Remember the difference when using other bank ATMs in metro and non-metro cities. These rules will come into effect on April 1st.
