Bank Holiday: Banks will be closed for public dealings tomorrow, April 1st. However, bank branches will remain open, but not for the general public. Banks were supposed to be closed in many states today, March 31st, 2026, due to Mahavir Jayanti, but some private and public banks remained open. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had directed agency banks to remain open on this day so that all government-related transactions could be completed within the financial year 2025-26.

Banks Closed for the Public on March 31st

According to the RBI, this decision was taken because March 31st is the last day of the financial year. Therefore, it is necessary to process government receipts, payments, and other important account settlements. For this reason, some branches of banks that handle government work will remain open. However, general customer service will not be available at these banks. Banks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh are officially closed today due to Mahavir Jayanti. This means that only government transactions will be done on this day, such as depositing taxes or work related to government payments.

Banks will open tomorrow, April 1st, but branches will remain closed for the public.
