10-lane expressway: The survey for the expressway to be constructed along the Yamuna embankment in Noida is set to begin in approximately 15 days. This expressway will extend from Noida to the Yamuna Expressway. Its construction will make the journey easier for those traveling from Delhi through Noida towards Greater Noida and the Yamuna Expressway.
The commencement of airport operations in Jewar will further increase the volume of vehicular traffic. Consequently, this will lead to congestion on the expressway. In light of this, a decision was taken approximately a year ago to construct an expressway along the Yamuna embankment. During a Board meeting held just last year, the responsibility for its construction was entrusted to UPIDA. About a month and a half ago, UPIDA’s consulting agency visited the site to assess the situation.
In this regard, they submitted a preliminary survey report to the Authority and UPIDA, stating that the expressway could be constructed in either a ground-level or an elevated configuration, depending on the specific conditions of different locations. Subsequently, earlier this week, UPIDA officials held a meeting with the Authority’s CEO and other officials.
During the meeting, the Authority’s CEO proposed that the expressway be designed as a 10-lane facility, or one with the maximum possible number of lanes. UPIDA’s consulting agency is scheduled to arrive within two weeks to conduct the survey.
The Embankment Will Also Be Connected to the Mahamaya Flyover
Construction of the Chilla Elevated Road is currently underway to alleviate traffic congestion at Film City. This road will commence at the Chilla Regulator in Delhi and extend up to the vicinity of the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida. From this point, a second elevated road will be constructed to connect it with the expressway being built along the Sector-94 embankment.
To be Constructed from Sector-94 Roundabout to Sector-150
In the city, the Yamuna Embankment (Pusta) begins at Sector-94. It extends up to Sector-150. Situated directly opposite it—on one side—are the Yamuna Expressway and Pari Chowk. UPEIDA has now decided to conduct a comprehensive survey for a new expressway stretching from the DND Flyway to Sector-150. At Sector-150, this new route will be connected to both the Yamuna River and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
Repairs to the Embankment Road Will Also Be Undertaken
Currently, the embankment is damaged in several places, with deep potholes present in some sections. While the Irrigation Department is responsible for the maintenance of this embankment, the financial costs associated with it are borne by the Authority. Officials from the Authority state that directives for the repair of the embankment road have already been issued, and work is set to commence shortly. Once this route is restored, it will help alleviate the traffic pressure on the expressway, enabling commuters to travel via the embankment road instead.
