Petrol-Diesel Prices Today: Amidst ongoing global uncertainty, there is a piece of relieving news for Indian consumers. Today, April 17, Indian oil marketing companies have made no changes to the prices of petrol and diesel. Rising tensions between Iran and Israel in the Middle East have stirred up the global oil market; however, prices at the domestic level currently remain stable. The global market is witnessing significant volatility in crude oil prices.
Global Supply Chains Disrupted by US-Iran Conflict
In fact, the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran—which began towards the end of February—has heightened concerns regarding disruptions to global supply chains. The primary concern centers on the Strait of Hormuz. This is the world’s most critical maritime route, through which approximately 20 percent of the global oil supply passes. Consequently, if the conflict does not end soon, crude oil prices could skyrocket. However, the Indian government and oil companies have currently adopted a “wait-and-watch” policy. For the time being, the government is not inclined to hike petrol and diesel prices.
Hike in Premium Fuel Prices
It is worth noting that while there has been no change in the prices of regular petrol and diesel, the prices of premium fuels have been increased. Under the new revisions effective from April 1, Indian Oil’s 100-octane premium petrol, ‘XP100’, has witnessed a substantial hike of ₹11 per liter. Its price has now risen from ₹149 to ₹160 per liter. Similarly, the price of ‘Xtra Green’ diesel has also been increased, and it is now retailing at ₹92.99 per liter.
