NEET UG 2026: The NTA has opened a portal for students belonging to the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category for NEET UG 2026, through which they can submit the details of their own ‘scribe’ (writer/assistant).
NEET UG 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a significant facility for candidates appearing for the upcoming medical entrance examination, NEET UG 2026, under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category. The NTA has launched a dedicated portal on its official website, through which candidates who are physically unable to write can submit the details of their own ‘scribe’ (writer/assistant).
This initiative has been undertaken to assist students who require an assistant to write (solve) the paper on their behalf during the examination. This facility ensures that the examination process remains fully inclusive and fair.
What is a Scribe, and who needs one?
A scribe is a person who marks a candidate’s answers on an OMR sheet within the examination hall, strictly in accordance with the candidate’s instructions. As per NTA regulations, students belonging to the PwBD category—who are unable to write on their own due to physical impairments (such as visually impaired students or those with a disability affecting their upper limbs exceeding 40%)—are eligible to avail themselves of this facility.
Registration Portal and Deadline
The NTA made this portal live on April 16, 2026. Candidates can submit their scribe details by visiting the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. The deadline has been set for April 21, 2026, at 11:50 PM. Candidates are advised to complete this process before the deadline to avoid any last-minute technical glitches.
How to Apply
Candidates must use their login credentials (Application Number and Password) and click on the ‘Register Scribe Details’ link.
Required Documents and Rules
While submitting details regarding a scribe, candidates must upload the following information and documents:
- Scribe’s Photo ID Card: Aadhaar Card or any other government-issued ID.
- Proof of Educational Qualification: The scribe’s qualification must be one level lower than that of the examinee.
- Declaration Form (Undertaking): Both the examinee and the scribe must sign a joint declaration form.
- PwBD Certificate: The examinee’s original disability certificate.
NEET UG 2026 Examination Schedule
The NEET UG 2026 examination will be conducted on May 03, 2026 (Sunday), from 02:00 PM to 05:20 PM. Special provisions have also been made for PwBD candidates. PwBD candidates with writing disabilities will be granted an additional 60 minutes (1 hour) to complete the examination, regardless of whether they utilize a scribe or not. The NTA has already issued the ‘Advance City Intimation Slip,’ enabling students to ascertain the city of their examination center.
