Following Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s surprise visit, the Delhi government has made biometric attendance mandatory across all departments. The Department of Administrative Reforms has issued a circular directing officials to ensure punctuality and to properly operate existing systems.
A few days after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s surprise visit—during which officials were found to be absent while on duty—the Delhi government has directed the heads of all its departments to ensure the mandatory installation of biometric attendance machines.
The government’s Department of Administrative Reforms has issued a circular directing all Additional Chief Secretaries, Secretaries, and heads of other departments to install and utilize a biometric attendance system to ensure punctuality. A senior government official stated that department heads have also been instructed to ensure that biometric systems already in place are functioning properly and that every employee records their attendance through them immediately.
Attendance will be regularly monitored.
To ensure that no one evades attendance, every officer and employee across all departments must mandatorily register in the biometric system. A circular issued by the Department of Administrative Reforms states: “All officers and employees—including Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, and Heads of Departments—shall record their attendance exclusively through the biometric attendance system.”
Action to be Taken Against Those Leaving Office Early
A warning has been issued stating that the heads of the concerned departments will regularly monitor attendance, and action will be taken against those who arrive late or leave the office before the scheduled time. The circular further states, “In the event of late arrival, early departure, or failure to record attendance, appropriate action will be initiated against the concerned officer or employee.”
