How to keep Aadhaar card safe?
To avoid misuse of Aadhaar card, you can lock it. UIDAI gives you the facility to lock and unlock the Aadhaar number. With this you can hide the first 8 digits of your Aadhaar. When Aadhaar is not needed, keep it locked, so that no one can misuse it.
What is the method to lock?
Go to UIDAI’s official website uidai.gov.in. Go to the option of My Aadhaar and click on Lock/Unlock. Enter VID number, full name, PIN code and captcha. Then you will get OTP on your registered mobile number. Your Aadhaar will be locked as soon as you submit the OTP.
You can also lock your Aadhaar through SMS
You can also lock Aadhaar by sending a message from your mobile number. For this, send an SMS by typing GETOTP to 1947 from your registered number. An OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Send the OTP as ‘LOCKUID Aadhaar number’ again to 1947. Your Aadhaar will be locked in a few seconds.
Can a locked Aadhaar be used?
Once Aadhaar is locked, you will not be able to use it. To use it, you will first have to unlock it. For this, you will have to go to the My Aadhaar option and click on the unlock option.
