UIDAI has implemented new rules for Aadhaar card corrections. The list of documents required for proof of identity and address has been updated, valid for everyone from children to senior citizens.
Aadhaar New Rules: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has amended the rules for Aadhaar enrolment and Aadhaar correction. These changes were made under the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Third Amendment Regulations, 2025.
The new rules update the list of documents that can be used as proof of identity, address, relationship, or date of birth. These new lists apply to all age groups, including children, adults, and senior citizens.
UIDAI accepts several types of identification documents for name correction. A passport is considered the most reliable document because it contains your photo, name, date of birth, and address. PAN cards, voter ID (EPIC), driver’s licenses, government identification cards, and marriage certificates are also accepted for name updates.
Documents Required for Address Change in Aadhaar
The list of documents required for address correction is quite long. Passport, bank passbook/bank statement (updated), electricity, water, and gas bills (issued within three months) are all valid documents.
For renters, a copy of the rent agreement along with police verification or a notarized copy is required. Documents like voter ID, ration card, house tax/property tax receipts are also valid for address updates.
How to update your date of birth in Aadhaar?
- You can use your birth certificate, passport, or 10th or 12th grade marksheet to change your date of birth.
- A physical PAN card is also valid as DOB proof, but e-PAN is not accepted.
- If your date of birth is clearly written on a government ID, that can also be used.
New Aadhaar Update Facility
- According to UIDAI’s new rules, a single document containing a photo, name, and address will now be sufficient for Aadhaar update.
- Previously, separate proofs were required, but now the process can be completed with a single document.
- Changing a name, correcting an address, updating a date of birth, or adding a relative—all tasks can be accomplished simply by providing the correct documents.
What to keep in mind?
According to UIDAI, all documents submitted for update must be original and neat.
Any cutting, overwriting, or alteration found may result in rejection of the application.
Some Aadhaar details can be changed only once. Names can be changed twice, while date of birth and gender can be changed only once.
