Aadhaar verification: The government may soon implement a new rule in response to data leaks and rising fraud. Under this rule, hotels, event organizers, and other organizations will be required to stop storing photocopies of Aadhaar cards. Instead, they will be required to use new digital verification technology. It should be noted that according to the current Aadhaar Act, it is illegal to keep someone’s Aadhaar card photocopy without reason.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar told PTI that institutions that handle Aadhaar-related verification will now be required to register for offline verification. This system will allow verification by scanning a QR code or using the new Aadhaar mobile app. This new rule will be implemented soon. He said, “The purpose of this new rule is to prevent paper-based verification.”
UIDAI is testing an app
This new method of verification will also eliminate problems with intermediary servers. Organizations that require offline verification will be provided with an API (Application Programming Interface), allowing them to integrate this verification system into their software.
The UIDAI is currently beta-testing a new app. This app will facilitate verification without the need to connect to the central Aadhaar database each time. It can be used in places like airports, shops, and hotels. Kumar said, “This will simplify offline verification, reduce the need for paperwork, and ensure the security of users’ Aadhaar data.” Furthermore, the new app will allow users to update their addresses and add family members who do not have mobile phones.
Digital data will make work easier
This app has been developed with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act in mind and is expected to be fully implemented nationwide within the next 18 months. Additionally, this new technology will further strengthen user privacy and data security in Aadhaar-related services.
Furthermore, this change will eliminate the need for people to carry a photocopy of their Aadhaar card with them everywhere. They will be able to easily verify their Aadhaar through a mobile app. This is another important step towards Digital India.
