PM Jan Dhan Yojana: 10 years ago, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was started to connect every poor person of the country with banking. Crores of people opened their accounts on zero balance and the money of government schemes started coming directly into their accounts. If you also have a Jan Dhan account, then this news is very, very important for you. Now that this scheme has completed 10 years. In such a situation, under the rules of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), it has now become mandatory to do Re-KYC (Know Your Customer) of these accounts.

After all, what is this Re-KYC and why is it needed now?

KYC means ‘Know Your Customer’. When you open an account, the bank takes documents like Aadhaar card, PAN card from you so that it can confirm your identity. Re-KYC means that the bank re-verifies your identity after a few years. This is similar to the way you get your mobile SIM card verified again after a few years of purchase. The bank has to ensure that the account holder is the same person, his address and mobile number are correct and the account is not being misused. Usually, for low-risk accounts, this needs to be done once every 10 years. Since Jan Dhan Yojana has completed 10 years, now is the time for Re-KYC.

What will happen if Re-KYC is not done?

This is the most important part of this news. If you do not get your Re-KYC done within the stipulated time, the bank can impose many restrictions on your account:

The account will be frozen: You will neither be able to withdraw nor deposit money from your account.

Money from government schemes will be stuck: If your account receives money for gas subsidy, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, pension or any other government scheme, then that too will stop coming.

Transactions will fail: You will not be able to do any kind of online or offline transaction.

In short, even if you have an account, you will not be able to use it until you complete the Re-KYC process.

The bank itself will come to your door

To save crores of people from running in long queues and offices of banks, the government and RBI have found a great solution. Understanding your problem, now the bank itself is coming to your village. Government banks across the country are organizing special camps at the panchayat level from July 1 to September 30, 2025. The purpose of these camps is to provide Re-KYC facility to Jan Dhan account holders near their homes. You just have to go to your nearest camp and the bank employees will help you completely.

What documents will be required for Re-KYC?

Before going to the camp, make sure that you have one of these documents:

Aadhaar card (the easiest)

PAN card

Voter ID card

Driving license

Passport

MGNREGA job card

Keep one or two passport size photos with you.

If there is any change in your address or mobile number, then update that information as well.

Conclusion

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has brought about a financial revolution in the country. Now it is your responsibility to continue this revolution. Getting Re-KYC done is not a burden, but an important step to keep your account safe and to continue getting the benefits of government schemes without any interruption. The government has made this process very easy by setting up camps in your village till September 30. Do not let this golden opportunity go by. Tell your neighbors about this today and get your Jan Dhan account updated in time and be worry-free.
