Agniveer Age Limit Increases: The Ministry of Defense has made its first change to the Agnipath scheme in nearly four years. Under this scheme, the age limit for Agniveers recruited in the Army, Navy, and Air Force has been increased by one year. Under the scheme, young people up to 22 years of age will be able to apply for the new Agniveers recruitment in all three services. Until now, this limit was 21 years.
Defense Ministry sources stated that this will allow more young people to join the scheme, while the lower age limit remains unchanged at 17.5 years. Under the scheme, approximately 50,000-55,000 Agniveers are recruited annually in the Army, Navy, and Air Force across various categories, including both technical and non-technical candidates.
Government sources have not provided a specific reason for the increase in the upper age limit. However, they say this decision was primarily made to attract more technical professionals to the scheme. It takes at least 17-18 years to complete the 12th grade, as the age is determined on July 1st. Therefore, those born after July 1st become eligible to apply for the first time only at the age of 18. After this, if they complete a two- or three-year technical diploma, their age increases to 21.
Sources say that the decision to increase the age limit by one year was made due to a decrease in technical applicants. In fact, recruiting technical professionals requires less training. The Air Force, Navy, and various branches of the Army, in particular, have a greater need for personnel with technical skills.
