Air India announced on Tuesday that it will commence commercial flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport with its low-cost airline, Air India Express. In the first phase, 20 flights will be operated daily to over 15 cities. Air India said in a statement that this will be increased to 55 flights, including five international flights, by mid-2026. Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), jointly owned by the Adani Group and Maharashtra’s urban development authority, CIDCO, will be inaugurated later this month on September 30th, marking the beginning of commercial flight operations.

The airport will be a key hub for both passenger and cargo operations.

Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said, “We are excited to commence operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport. We are pleased to partner with Adani Airports to develop NMIA as a hub connecting the rest of the country.” We are also pleased to develop it as one of the country’s leading global transit hubs for both passengers and cargo, given its strategic geographical location.” Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said, “This partnership will redefine Mumbai’s connectivity landscape. The technology adopted by NMIA to enhance efficiency and the best passenger experience will play a key role in providing seamless and better travel for passengers in the coming decades.”
