The reason is that runway repairs will temporarily disrupt flight services at Jodhpur Airport, Srinagar Airport, Pune Airport, and Adampur Air Base this year. According to news18, this closure is part of a phased runway recarpeting plan at airports operated by the Indian Air Force. These airports are used for both civilian and military defense purposes, so maintaining runways to high technical standards is crucial.
An official said that NOTAMs (Notices for Air Missions) have already been issued for the closure of some locations, while airlines were informed months in advance through the government’s slot coordination process.
Jodhpur Airport to be the First Impact
Flight operations at Jodhpur Airport will be completely suspended for approximately a month, from March 29th to April 27th. IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have already suspended bookings after March 28th, indicating a significant impact.
Phase-by-phase closure in Srinagar
Flights at Srinagar Airport will be affected every weekend from August to mid-October. Following this, the airport will be completely closed from October 16th to November 5th.
Pune and Adampur will also be affected
Runway repairs are also planned at Pune Airport, although the dates for these have yet to be officially announced. Meanwhile, Adampur Air Base is expected to remain closed for approximately eight months until the end of the year, which will be the longest period.
