If you travel by air frequently and expect to relax in an airport lounge, sometimes you may be denied entry to the lounge. There can be many reasons like limited space, new rules, quota expiry or card terms. Let us know what are the reasons that can stop you at the lounge door.
Airport Lounge: Waiting during air travel sometimes seems tiring and boring. But if during this time you get a chance to relax in the airport lounge, where there is free food and drink facility, Wi-Fi and comfortable seats, then this wait becomes easy and fun. There are many credit and debit cards in the country that give passengers free or low-cost entry to the airport lounge. However, these facilities are different on every card and in most cases are valid only for limited visits. But many times it happens that despite having a credit card, passengers are not able to get entry into the lounge. If this has happened to you too, then you are not alone. There are some important reasons behind this.
Reasons for not getting entry into the lounge
When the seat is full – Business class and priority passengers get entry first. In case of heavy crowd, passengers with credit cards are stopped.
Change in rules – Many card companies implement new rules. For example, HDFC Bank’s Tata Neu credit card has started a new rule from June 10, 2025, in which lounge vouchers will be available only after spending Rs 50,000.
End of free visit – Most cards have a fixed limit of year or quarter. When the limit is over, you have to pay to go to the lounge.
Domestic vs International – Some cards are valid only for domestic lounges, do not work in international lounges.
Primary and add-on cards – Lounge access is often available only to the primary card holder. This facility is not available on add-on cards.
Tie-up with lounge – Not every card has a tie-up with a lounge at every airport. Because of this, the card works at one place and not at another.
