Delhi International Airport: If you also often take flights from Delhi’s IGI Airport, then this news is useful for you. Yes, domestic passengers traveling to and from Delhi Airport may soon have to pay more for air travel during peak hours. Apart from this, passengers of international first and business class may have to pay more money than those traveling in economy or premium economy. If this happens, then both these proposals will be for the first time for any airport in the country.

Plan to charge fees according to different times and classes

Actually, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has proposed to charge User Development Fee (UDF) on passengers arriving at the airport. Currently, this fee is charged only from departing passengers. Also, there is talk of charging different fees according to different times and classes. Sources say that this is being done so that the fare does not have to be increased too much at once and it can help in fulfilling the big plans of DIAL.

Will correct the proposed rates after investigation and consultation

DIAL, which operates IGI Airport, has submitted a proposed tariff card for air services charges to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA). It will conduct its investigation and correct the proposed rates after consultation. Air services charges include charges like landing and parking fees, which airlines use to fix the fare, as well as UDF. This payment is made directly to the airport operator by the passengers.

Currently, UDF of Rs 52 is charged from passengers going to Delhi Airport

Right now, UDF of about Rs 52 (tax extra) is charged from them. But, DIAL is proposing to increase this fee to Rs 610 and Rs 1620. Apart from this, there is a proposal to increase other types of air fees as well. DIAL has said in its letter sent to AERA along with the proposed tariff card that DIAL has been incurring losses for some time. The loss in the current financial year is expected to be more than Rs 1,500 crore.

The charge will increase from Rs 430 to Rs 810

The proposed UDF for economy class passengers taking international flights has been kept between Rs 430 and Rs 810. Whereas for business category passengers, the fee range has been kept between Rs 860 and Rs 1620. According to the proposal submitted to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), it is proposed to levy a UDF of Rs 810 for each economy class passenger for the first two years 2025-26 and 2026-27 and then Rs 430 for 2027-28 and 2028-29.
