Airport New Service: Check-in and self baggage drop facilities will be available at IGI Terminal Airport from next month

IGI Airport News- The upgraded Terminal-2 of IGI Airport is a perfect amalgamation of passenger convenience, security and technical efficiency. While the self baggage drop will make the passengers self-reliant, the autonomous boarding bridge will set an example of technological advancement.

Airport New Service: Terminal-2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital will be opened for passengers from October 26. It was temporarily closed in April this year for upgradation. The Airports Authority of India built it forty years ago. This time Terminal-2 has been fully equipped with modern technologies. Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, it has included self baggage drop system, passenger boarding bridge with autonomous docking technology, improved flight information display system, and state-of-the-art road and mechanical structures.

From midnight of October 25-26, about 120 domestic flights of Air India and Indigo will now operate from Terminal-2. This will not only increase operational efficiency, but passengers will also get a more comfortable travel experience. Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, DIAL, said, “Terminal-2 is not just an upgrade of infrastructure, but it is a step towards redefining the passenger experience. Facilities like self baggage drop and autonomous boarding bridge will empower passengers and make IGI Airport future-ready.”

Eliminate the hassle of waiting in queues for baggage check-in

Terminal 2 has been equipped with a Self Baggage Drop (SBD) system. Passengers will no longer have to stand in long queues to get their baggage checked in. Passengers will scan their boarding passes, attach baggage tags and deposit their luggage within minutes to proceed to the next leg of their journey. This will reduce waiting times and make the travel experience much more seamless.

Autonomous docking technology for the first time

The six new Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) installed at Terminal 2 are state-of-the-art. They use autonomous docking technology, the first of its kind in India. This means that the alignment of the aircraft and the bridge will happen automatically, making the boarding and disembarking process even faster and safer.

These boarding bridges have been imported from South Korea and include special ramps, swing doors and adjustable cabins, allowing easy movement of passengers even for wheelchair users. The roof and skylight design of Terminal 2 make it bright and spacious. This will give passengers an experience of openness and comfort. Apart from this, better road connectivity has been developed to reach the terminal so that problems like traffic jams can be avoided.

Fresh air will be available all the time

Not only this, new HVAC systems have been installed in Terminal-2, which will ensure fresh air and favorable temperature all the time. Advanced fire safety systems and reliable power supply will increase the safety and convenience of both passengers and airport staff.

Technology will double the convenience of passengers

A new and high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS) has been installed here to help passengers. This will make flight information more clear and available in real time. Also, specially designed signage has been installed within the terminal so that passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) can also easily reach their flight gate.
