Airports Closed: Big news for air travelers. Flights will be affected for some time due to runway repairs at 4 major airports in the country – Adampur Air Base in Punjab, Jodhpur, Srinagar and Pune. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has planned to recarpet the runways at these airports in a phased manner.
Runway repair work is going to start soon at Adampur Air Base in Punjab, due to which this airport may remain closed for about 8 months. This news has become a matter of concern for passengers as it will directly affect flight services. This work at Adampur Air Base will be started after November.
The first to start work will be at Jodhpur airport, where all civil flights will remain closed for about a month from March 29 to April 27. Due to this, airlines like IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express have already stopped bookings after March 28.
Passengers will also face difficulties at Srinagar airport. Flights will remain closed here on every weekend between August and October. Apart from this, the entire airport will be closed for 21 days from October 16 to November 5.
Talking about Pune Airport, flights are also likely to be affected by the renovations later this year, although the full schedule has not been released yet. The authorities have already informed the airlines and in some cases, notices have also been issued so that passengers can change their travel plans in advance.
Let us tell you that all these airports are run by the Indian Air Force and are used for civil flights as well as military aircraft. The quality of the runways is essential for fighter jets, which is why such renovations have to be done from time to time.
