Alert! Is your car not leaving much smoke, may have to pay green tax

Green Tax On Vehicles: The government is preparing to impose a green tax on old vehicles soon i.e. to curb pollution and protect the environment. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given information about this.

The ministry said that strong hybrids, electric vehicles and vehicles running on flools like CNG, ethanol and LPG will be excluded from this tax. Tax collection from other vehicles will be used to reduce pollution.

Ministry Approves Green Tax

The ministry said that Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved the proposal to impose a green tax on the old vehicles that are causing pollution. Now it will be sent to the states for consultation before the final notification.

At the time of renewal of the registration certificate after 15 years, green tax will be levied on private vehicles. Public transport vehicles like city buses will be charged green tax at a lower rate. Highly polluted cities such as Delhi and Mumbai may attract higher taxes on registered vehicles, which can be up to fifty percent of the road tax. Different taxes can be levied depending on the type of vehicle and type of fuel.
