Payments using UPI are rapidly growing in the country. Now, making UPI payments through Amazon Pay will become even easier. Amazon has launched the UPI Biometric Authentication feature in India. This means you can now make UPI payments using Amazon Pay using your face or thumbprint, eliminating the need to enter a four-digit PIN.

This new biometric authentication feature eliminates the need to enter a UPI PIN for transactions up to ₹5,000. Early usage data shows that customers are enjoying the experience, with over 90% choosing biometrics for eligible peer-to-peer UPI transactions. This feature allows you to make payments to contacts, scan merchants while shopping, and check account balances.

For payments above ₹5,000, you’ll need to enter a PIN.

This feature will be very useful for those who prefer to make quick online payments or avoid the hassle of repeatedly entering a PIN. Amazon Pay became the first payment platform in India to launch biometric UPI. For security reasons, this feature has been limited to transactions up to ₹5,000. This means that if you make a payment of less than ₹5,000, you won’t need to enter a PIN. However, if you’re making a payment of even ₹1 over ₹5,000, you’ll need to enter a four-digit PIN.

Benefits of this feature

The purpose of UPI Biometric Authentication is to reduce “transaction friction,” that is, to remove small obstacles that arise during payments. This feature will work across all major payment modes, such as Send Money, Scan & Pay, and online merchant payments. This feature also improves security, as biometric data cannot be shared with anyone else, nor can it be stolen from you. Furthermore, this feature will make it easier to make payments while holding the phone with one hand.

How to use

1. Update the Amazon Pay app from the Google Play Store.

2. Open the app and then tap the Amazon Pay icon on the navigation bar or homepage.

3. Tap Amazon Pay UPI and then look for the Settings or Profile section.

4. Look for a new option labeled ‘Security,’ ‘Biometric Authentication,’ or ‘Enable Fingerprint/Face Unlock.’

5. Now confirm activation by confirming your existing UPI PIN.
