Indian Railways has taken seriously passengers’ complaints regarding the quality of Amul yogurt served on the Patna-Tata Vande Bharat Express. The complaints expressed dissatisfaction with the taste and freshness of the yogurt. Keeping passenger safety in mind, the Railways has taken significant action. The Railways has imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh on its own company, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
According to information, a passenger’s complaint regarding the irregularities found on March 15, 2026, on train number 21896 (Patna-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express) has been taken seriously. IRCTC has been fined ₹10 lakh. The concerned service provider has been fined ₹50 lakh and the contract has been terminated. An Indian Railways spokesperson stated that passenger safety and quality are our top priorities.
Additionally, Amul has been summoned to provide a clear explanation of the yogurt quality issues. Officials stated that this move is aimed at ensuring high-quality and hygienic food for passengers. IRCTC stated that it is monitoring all food providers and will not tolerate any deficiencies.
Passengers also expressed their displeasure over the poor quality of yogurt on social media, prompting IRCTC to take immediate action. Officials say that safety and satisfactory service are a priority, and strict action will be taken in future cases.
It should be noted that Indian Railways, through IRCTC, serves meals to over 1.5 million passengers daily across its vast network, making it one of the largest onboard food operations in the world. Passenger safety and food quality are the cornerstones of this mission. Any violation of these standards results in immediate and strict action.
