However, the limits for other debit cards, as well as for POS, e-commerce, and contactless payments, remain unchanged.
ATM withdrawal limit: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has reduced the daily ATM cash withdrawal limit for some of its debit cards by up to 50%. The new limit will come into effect on April 1, 2026. The bank stated that this step was taken to strengthen risk control, enhance customer security, and promote secure digital banking. This will affect several premium and special PNB debit cards.
While previously allowing daily cash withdrawals of up to ₹1 lakh on some cards, this limit will now be reduced to ₹50,000. Similarly, the limit on some high-end cards will be reduced from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹75,000. However, the limits for all other debit cards remain unchanged. Furthermore, the limits for POS (Post-in-store payments), e-commerce, and contactless transactions will remain the same.
Which cards will be affected?
Cards in the first category, where the limit is being reduced from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000, include the RuPay NCMC Platinum Domestic Debit Card, the RuPay NCMC Platinum International Debit Card, the RuPay Women Power Platinum Debit Card, the RuPay PNB Palaash Debit Card (Recycled PVC Debit Card), the RuPay Business Platinum NCMC Debit Card, the MasterCard Platinum Debit Card, the Visa Gold Debit Card, and the PNB MasterCard Platinum Rise.
The second category of cards where the limit is being reduced from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹75,000 includes the RuPay Select Debit Card, PNB RuPay Select Neo, PNB RuPay Select Excel, Visa Signature Debit Card, and Mastercard Business Debit Card.
How to reset the limit?
PNB has informed customers that if they require a higher limit, they can set or reset it themselves, but only within the new limit. This can be done through internet banking, the mobile app PNB One, IVR, or WhatsApp banking. First, log in to internet banking, select Debit Card Personalization under Value-Added Services. Then select the account number and service, such as ATM limit. Enter the card details, enter the new limit, and confirm with an OTP. A message will be received upon success.
The PNB One app is even easier. Open the app, select Debit Cards under Services, and then click Update ATM Limit or Other Limit. Select your account and card, view your current limit, enter your new limit, and confirm with your transaction password. The limit will be updated. This change may have a slight impact on customers, especially those who withdraw large amounts of cash. However, the bank says it’s necessary to promote digital payments and ensure security. The bank has clearly stated that other transactions, such as online or in-store payments, remain unchanged. Therefore, it’s best to adopt digital methods as much as possible.
