On Saturday, in a program of a media house, yoga guru Ramdev challenged the editor present on the stage to a wrestling match. 59-year-old Baba Ramdev came to the fight with full confidence, but he probably did not know that the person standing in front of him was not an ordinary journalist, but a name associated with the wrestling legacy.
Jaideep Karnik, a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, comes from a strong wrestling family background. His father, Subhash Karnik, was not only a renowned wrestler but also one of Madhya Pradesh’s most respected wrestling writers. His grandfather, Ranganath Karnik, was considered a legendary wrestler of his time.
A viral video on social media shows Baba Ramdev attempting a full-force attack, but Jaideep Karnik deftly parries his attack. At one point, Ramdev even knocks the journalist to the ground, but Karnik regains his composure and returns to the contest. Ultimately, the contest ends with smiles and a friendly exchange. Both men fall to the ground and then stand up laughing.

As soon as the video went viral, social media was flooded with reactions. One user on X wrote, “Whatever one may say, Baba Ramdev is quite fit even at this age.”
While another quipped, “Baba must have thought he would find an easy target, but he became a laughingstock himself.”
Another user wrote, “This journalist will never forget this moment.”
It’s worth noting that wrestling is no stranger to Baba Ramdev. He previously wrestled Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar in Haridwar. He also competed against Ukrainian wrestler Andrei Stadnik, who defeated Sushil Kumar at the 2008 Olympics, in a promotional match for Patanjali Power Vita Pro Wrestling in New Delhi. In that match, Ramdev won 12-0, demonstrating technical moves like takedowns, one-leg holds, and pins.
Although the match was purely promotional, he urged people to take up wrestling. He said that wrestling not only improves stamina and fitness, but also has tremendous potential to become popular globally.
