March 19: Banks Closed in Several States

Banks will be closed in several cities across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, and Jammu and Kashmir on March 19, marking the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, Telugu New Year, Cheiraoba, and the first day of Navratri.

Gudi Padwa 2026: Why is it celebrated?

Gudi Padwa marks the beginning of the Marathi New Year. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm primarily in Maharashtra and Goa. In 2026, it will be celebrated on March 19 (Thursday). According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Pratipada Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Chaitra month. This time, Pratipada Tithi will begin at 6:52 am on March 19 and will last until 4:52 am on March 20, so the festival will be celebrated on March 19.

March 20–21: Banks also closed for Eid

Banks will be closed on March 20 in some cities of Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh due to Jumat al-Wida and Eid al-Fitr.

After this, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21, there will be a bank holiday in many big states of the country like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar, Rajasthan and West Bengal.

The weekend and festivals combine to create a long holiday season.

Overall, this long series of bank holidays, starting March 19th, is important for the general public.
