However, due to Janmashtami, most bank customers are assuming that banks will remain closed, but it is not so. Banks are not closed in all the states of the country on Janmashtami. Banks remain open in some states. According to the RBI list, banks will remain closed in UP but branches will remain open in Delhi. There is no bank holiday on Janmashtami in Delhi. Apart from Delhi, banks will also remain open in Mumbai.

On August 16, 2025, banks will remain closed in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Telangana, Srinagar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Gujarat, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh due to Janmashtami i.e. Krishna Jayanti. However, banks will remain open on Saturday, August 16 in Tripura, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa and Himachal Pradesh. Here the bank branches will function normally.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Friday, August 15, 2025, there will be a public holiday in banks across the country. On this day, banking services will be closed at the branch level, but digital services like ATM, internet banking and mobile banking will be available to customers as before. This holiday is included in the list of holidays notified by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and will be applicable to all government and private banks.
