These instructions will apply to all banks that handle government transactions. RBI has taken this decision to properly settle the transactions of the financial year 2024-25.

Why was there a holiday on March 31 earlier?

Actually, on March 31, 2025, banks were going to be closed in almost all the states due to Ramadan Eid (Eid-ul-Fitr). Banks were going to remain open only in Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram. But now the government has ordered to keep the banks open to continue the process of financial transactions properly.

For which services will the banks remain open?

Government tax payment – Income Tax, GST, Custom Duty, Excise Duty etc.

Payment of pension and government grants

Distribution of government salaries and allowances

Payments related to government schemes and subsidies

Bank holiday will also remain on April 1

Let us tell you that on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, banks will remain closed in most states and union territories. Like every year, it will remain closed due to annual account closing of banks and the beginning of the new financial year. However, banks will remain open on this day in Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
