Therefore, before visiting the bank in January 2026, it’s important to know which days and cities banks will be closed.
List of Holidays in January
On January 1, 2026 (Thursday), banks will be closed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, and Shillong due to the New Year and the Gaang-Ngai festival.
Banking services will remain closed in Aizawl, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on January 2, 2026 (Friday) on account of New Year celebrations and Mannam Jayanti.
Banks in Lucknow will remain closed on January 3, 2026 (Saturday) on account of Hazrat Ali’s birthday.
January 4th (Sunday) will be a weekly holiday across the country.
January 10th (Saturday) will be a holiday for all banks as it is the second Saturday of the month, while January 11th (Sunday) will be a weekly holiday.
Banks will be closed in Kolkata on January 12th (Monday) due to Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.
Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, and Itanagar on January 14th (Wednesday) due to Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.
Banks will be closed in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada on January 15th (Thursday) due to Pongal, Uttarayan Punyakaal, and Makar Sankranti.
Banks will be closed in Chennai on January 16th (Friday) due to Thiruvalluvar Day.
Chennai will be closed on January 17th (Saturday) due to Uzhavar Thirunal.
Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata on January 18 (Sunday) due to weekly holiday, January 23 (Friday) due to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, Saraswati Puja and Basant Panchami.
Banks will remain closed in most cities across the country on January 24 (Saturday), the fourth Saturday of the month, January 25 (Sunday) being a weekly holiday, and January 26 (Monday) being Republic Day.
