Barrier-Free Toll: Drivers traveling on the Delhi-Chandigarh highway are going to get relief from the hassle of stopping at the toll plaza and paying toll. The country’s first barrier-free tolling system (Multi-Lane Free Flow-MLFF) is going to start at Gharaunda toll plaza. Similarly, this system will also be implemented at Choriyasi toll plaza located on NH-48 in Gujarat. For this, Indian Highway Management Company Limited (IHMCL), an associate organization of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has signed an agreement with ICICI Bank.

The purpose of MLFF i.e. Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System is that those traveling on the highway do not need to stop at the toll plaza. This system is based on high-performance RFID readers and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera technology. As soon as the vehicle passes through the toll plaza, the camera scans the Fastag and the vehicle’s number plate and immediately completes the electronic transaction.

MLFF will be implemented on 5 toll plazas of Delhi-NCR

According to NHAI, this new system will be implemented on six more toll plazas in the next two months. Five of these toll plazas are in Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region). These toll plazas are—UER-II, Dwarka E-way, Pachgaon, Shahjahanpur, Manoharpur and Daulatpur (all on NH-48). After the implementation of MLFF on these plazas, the journey from Delhi and Haryana to Jaipur will become faster and without any stoppage. Currently, the toll rates of UER-II and Dwarka E-way are being finalized.

Will be expanded across the country

According to NHAI officials, this new system will be implemented at a total of 25 toll plazas this year. NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said, “With the use of technology, this system will make toll collection more efficient, transparent and user-friendly. This is a big step towards our vision of technology-based transformation in national highway operations.”
