Bharat Taxi: Paytm has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a partnership with Bharat Taxi, India’s new government-backed ride-hailing service. According to the company, under this partnership, Paytm will expand its mobile payment infrastructure onto the Bharat Taxi platform, enabling riders to make ride payments using UPI within the Bharat Taxi app. Paytm also plans to integrate payment technologies like QR codes, Soundbox, and card machines into the platform, making payment acceptance even easier and safer.

Paytm stated in a press release that the partnership will further its intention to promote UPI onboarding of drivers, the potential presence of the Bharat Taxi mini-app, and increase visibility and engagement between the two ecosystems. This move by Paytm aims to strengthen financial inclusion for drivers and expand their access to digital financial services.

Bharat Taxi was formally launched on February 5, 2026, by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. It is India’s first ride-hailing platform based on a cooperative model, operated under Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. The service aims to provide ownership and better income opportunities to drivers, while also offering transparent fares and surge pricing-free service.

Bharat Taxi has already launched in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat and plans to expand across India in the next two to three years. The platform follows a cooperative income model, without charging any commission to drivers, allowing them to retain a significant portion of their earnings. This model challenges traditional ride-hailing companies like Uber, Ola, and Rapido, which charge commissions and surge charges on fares.
