After this, now the new date for filing income tax return has become 31 December 2020. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has given information about this. The CBDT said in a statement issued on its behalf that the last date for filing income tax returns for taxpayers has been extended till 31 December 2020. The CBDT said that the deadline is being extended so that taxpayers have additional time to file income tax returns.

Deadline increased for these by January 2021

For taxpayers whose accounts are to be audited, the deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended for two months to 31 January 2021. CBDT said in the statement, ‘The last date for filing ITR for taxpayers whose accounts are required to be audited (for which the due date is October 31, 2020 as per the I-T Act) has been extended to January 31, 2021 is.’

Deadline was first increased by November 2020



Earlier, the government had extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2019-20 from 31 July 2020 to 30 November 2020. In view of the corona virus epidemic, the government had to take this decision to increase tax compliance and provide some relief to taxpayers amid the current crisis.
